Hello!  I'm Katy Huller.

Picture
I've been teaching kids to read and write for over 19 years now.  During this time, I have worked with all sorts of kids --  gifted kids, average kids, below average kids, dyslexic kids, hyper kids, calm kids, angry kids, happy kids, and a mix of many of the above.  I've also worked with a multitude of kids struggling with various processing, speech, language, and/or attention issues.  Despite the variety of kids and the broad range of reading/writing problems they have come to me with, I've had great results.  Over and over again, I've watched these kids learn to read and write.

Now I want to help YOU get the same great results.  It's really not that hard to do, especially if you start when your kids are YOUNG and just beginning the process!  Check out the first book in my new series, Kids Can! READ and WRITE! 2 and 3 Letter Words!, and browse through my other products.  Feel free to utilize my FREE Word Card Program as well!

Do Your Kids Already Know Their Letters and Sounds?

Picture

If your kids already know letters and sounds, you can show them how to blend letter sounds together and/or segment them apart so they can read and write their first words!

I wrote this short e-book to help parents and teachers get their kids reading and writing their first words WITHOUT frustration and tears!  It is SIMPLE to follow and has everything you need to get started -- step-by-step directions, word lists, sentences, matching activities, and even some game ideas!  Don't wait for your kids to begin school to get them reading and writing!  As soon as they known letters and sounds, they are ready!

Do Your Kids Know the "TRICKS?"

Your kids need to know the "tricks" in order to read more than simple consonant-vowel-consonant words and/or words with blends.  As soon as your kids are blending and segmenting simple sounds with ease, begin teaching them the "tricks."

Having Trouble Teaching Your Kids How to Read and/or Write?  Worried Your Child Might Have a Learning Disability?

Picture
Bright kids who continue to struggle despite being taught HOW to read and write might have a learning disability of some sort.
There are many reasons why kids struggle to read and write.  Often, it is because they simply don't understand how letters and sounds work together to make words.  Because of this, it's important to make sure you have taught your kids:
  • Letters
  • Sounds
  • Blending/segmenting techniques
  • "Tricks" (*Lack of "Tricks" knowledge is often an underlying cause of struggle!)
  • How to adjust common "outlaw" words
It is also important to make sure you have given your kids enough PRACTICE utilizing these skills so they can internalize them properly.

Unfortunately, some kids continue to struggle despite being taught everything they need to know to read and write.  If you suspect your child has a learning disability, consult your child's teacher and/or pediatrician to find out what you should do next.
